Thread: Can anyone recommend any good spooky books for the season?

Here's the thing. I'm lying low for a little while, because I'm trying to kick a nasty head cold that's had me suffering since Wednesday last week. So today the plan is to just take it easy. I've already made a piping hot cup of tea (I wanted hot apple cider, but it's too acidic on my throat right now), and I'm looking for stuff to read.

I've got a boatload of mysteries that I can reread, as I often do at bedtime, but I was hoping for something more Halloweeny. I have a book of local legends called Spooky Virginia that I picked up last week at Barnes & Noble, and a collection of Halloween tales by various famous authors. I also have Ray Bradbury's The Halloween Tree, which I read every year.

I've read (and own) most of Stephen King's novels, so that's kind of out for me. I actually overloaded myself on SK a while back. Now the only one I can really read anymore is 'Salem's Lot, which I think I've read about 20 or 30 times.

I also recently bought some of my old favorites of the classic Goosebumps series when Amazon had a sale on kids' books. It's really fun to go back and reread them as an adult.

Can anyone recommend any Halloween-themed books for me to submerge myself in while I try to get rid of this wretched cold?

I was going to recommend Salems Lot because that's the only book I've read that I've actually found scary, but you already know that.

Dean Koontz has a book of short stories called "Strange Highways" that I read every October.
