Having breakfast out and on the TV in the restaurant I saw a movie preview for THE THING that will be released Friday. Couldn't hear anything but it looked good from what I saw. Anyone hear anything about this movie? I assume it's a remake of Carpenter's movie?

From what I understand, it's supposed to be set a few days before the point at which the first movie began. Can't wait to see it.

Yeah, it's pretty much the same concept as Carpenter's movie. I'll stick with Hawk's original.

I always thought the Hawk's version was kind of overrated really.

I'll stick with Carpenter's take on "Who Goes There?".
You'll have money and all that money can buy.

Carpenter's The Thing is one of my favorite films. Even though all of the promo material states that this is a prequel, all of the scenes I've watched in commercials and trailers make it look like they are trying to repeat every beat from Carpenter's film. Why would that be necessary? I'll see what it gets on rottentomatoes.

I would agree with that assessment based on the fear factor and let's be honest... James Arness wasn't much of a monster. But the pacing, acting, and writing are vastly supperior to Carpenter's sleeper.

If you're going to see it you better be quick. It was only out in the theaters for a couple weeks over here. That should tell you everything you need to know about this stinker.
