I'm a Dark Shadows fanatic, from what I have seen and heard it will be nothing like what we loved in the 60's & 70's...not even close.
I'll check it out though for the heck of it

I didn't like what he did with Willie Wonka and I'll probably skip this one, too. I prefer Tim Burton when he's doing original material, not screwing up the classics.

Wish one of the cable channels like Chiller would re-run the original show!

Two of my favorite things - Johnny Depp and Dark Shadows.

As long as Barnabas doesn't sparkle, everything should be OK.

Anyone else remember the short-lived remake on network TV with Ben Cross? What was that late-80's or early 90's?

I've been hearing about it for ages but figured it had been shelved, since nothing ever came of it. I'm a huge Dark Shadows fan - I even liked the "new" series from 1990, short lived as it was. Not sure what it will be once Burton gets ahold of it, but we'll see.

Yeah. I believe every generation should experience the heart-warming joy of watching Barnabas beat Willie with that wolf-headed cane, but I am going to approach this production with caution.

I saw a photo of Depp in makeup for this. I didn't like it but, it could have been that way for lighting and film so i'm trying not to judge... Love Dark Shadows, Love Burton, LOVE Depp but, sometimes not so much. Not a fan on what they did with Willie Wonka or Alice in Wonderland.

I will cautiously wait as well...

Ewww, you're right. That is not Barnabus Collins for me! Might be his cane but not my dark character. I was a huge DS fan when it originally aired, rushing home from the school bus to catch it regiously every day. Saw most of the new eps although it was only okay. A few years ago SCIFi aired it, both series, and I recorded all of them. Rewatching some of the shows is a hoot because they did it on such a low budget and there's plenty of flaws that now are kind of humorous. Loved the actors though and the storyline, everything from Victoria's arriving to be a governness to Angelique to Quentin.

I have liked Depp's work in the Pirates series, but didn't see the movies that people mentioned above. I'll probably look for this DS title when it gets released and see how it compares to my favorite version. There were several other Dark Shadows movies that came out after the show ended and I have those as well. Enjoyed those to varying degrees. It's hard to imagine others playing the parts of Barnabus, Angelique and a number of others.
