I just found out that a new version of the movie The Thing is coming out. No, not the 50's version but John Carpenter's 1982 version. I really love that movie. I showed it to a couple of my kids fairly recently and it really tripped them out. That film is one of the best I've ever seen and I'm really excited about this one. It's not a remake but a prequel so I really hope they don't screw it up.

    Here is a trailer http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2985204761/

    Muhahaha!!

I'm your polar opposite. I loved Howard Hawk's version of The Thing and couldn't stand Carpenter's remake. I just watched The Thing From Another World this weekend, and still found it to have some of the best acting of any sci-fi movie aside from Them. The way the characters banter and interact is just so refreshingly authentic, especially Scotty the reporter. Carpenter's movie was nothing more than a who-done-it with a monster twist, with characters focused on distancing themselves from each other instead of banding together to combat a threat, which to me was pretty boring.

I was really thrilled when I saw the first preview and immediately knew it was a remake of the The Thing, but my first thought was are they remaking Hawk's movie or Carpenter's, and I was pretty bummed to see it'll be another who-done-it.
