Why did Jason Vorhees wear the hockey mask in all those slasher movies?

    * We already knew who he was by name...

    * If he's that disfigured, he'd still be scary, if not moreso...

    * He killed everyone he met anyway...

    ;-)

It was face protection from all the blood splatter and the hacked up flying bone fragments! Remember, Safety first!

I know this isn't serious, but it's the whole "I wear a mask because I'm ugly and disfigured" thing.

Also, from the filmmaker's perspective, it kept the air of mystery about him.

First the sack, then the hockey mask.

WHY they switched from the sack to the hockey mask, I'm not sure. I'll be watching the "His Name Was Jason" doc this friday for the first time in honor of Friday the 13th. Hopefully they answer that question there.

I am going to go as far as to say it was to be cool at the time. When he donned the mask in Part 3, It was the mid 80s and Hockey was BIG BIG BIG then esp Street Hockey.

I think JAson just wanted to fit in and be cool.

    LOL

What they never showed in the movie, it's that before he drown in Crystal Lake, little Jason was one of the best hockey goaly ever! He even won "Best hockey goaly" in hockey camp league. He was suppose to traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, being the youngest player ever in their history, but his mother didn't allow that to happen. When he drown, realising he should have taken swimming lessons instead of playing hockey all the time, his mother went nuts after realising all the money he could have made being a hockey goaly instead of being a turned into a water log. So, in the 3rd movie, when he see's the mask, all thoses dashed dreams of the big leagues all came back, fuelling his killings even more. In "Jason takes Mahattan", he was suppose to go play in the Newyork Islanders, but it got cut from the script. True story! Really!

The mask also makes him look inhuman. You cannot see any emotion from somebody wearing a mask. That helps to visually show him to be the homicidal psychopath monster that he is. All the humanity is gone. He's kind of like a machine - a terminator. Michael's mask also has that effect.

the hockey mask jason has was based of a 1950s detroit red wings goalie mask , the first goalie mask was worn buy a canadian Jacque Plante, he invented it. Jacque was brutally hit by a puck and suffered facial scars and stiches he then donned this mask and went on to play having a high unbeaten streek when he wore the mask.. in similar nature Jason covers his scars and facial diformities and also has a unbeaten streek... co-incidence ???

Hire another actor, put on the mask, there, done.
"Make Up"? Are you kidding? Just saved more munny!
whats next? Filming a movie using cardboard cut outs, then using a computer to action-fie them?
As a country we have been voting for cardboard cut-outs ever since photography!

All I know is he needs to start rocking out one of the new ones with the awesome airbrushing on it. Maybe he could have a mural of his best kills on it.
