    I'm also thinking it was a foreign film... did the walls resemble latex? As if the special effects were created with very thick latex sheets?

    I guess at the time it would have had to be a physical effect rather than the blocky CGI of the late '80s. On the other hand I remember arms reaching out, not just "a person pushing against a rubber sheet"

    Hmm, had to look that one up. The one I remember was newer, in color, but I think it would definitely count as being a homage to Repulsion.
