Here's some tips if you go:
Try to get there the day before the convention- celbs will already be there & are very approachable & friendly
If you do meet a celb, don't treat them as a star crazed fan. They will respect you more, if you treat them like a friend.
If the con hotel (Marriott) is full, there are a number of close by hotels in the area.
Hotel bars close between 2-3 am. Many people are still woundup with the day's previous events. That's when the magic supply of unending booze appears from lined backpacks & flexible small coolers.
There is so much to do & see. Try to pick & choose a couple of highlights per day, then use the rest of the day to do whatever.
Bring lots of money! Celbs & most dealers prefer cash. Some dealers will let you charge your purchases on a credit card, ask first. The cash machine in the hotel is empty most of the time from the vast number of people attending. Ask at the hotel desk where the nearest cash machine is located outside the hotel.
Don't forget to allocate room in your suitcase for your purchases.
The convention is located in Hunt Valley. That's 30 minutes North of the airport. There are a number of transport options available from the airport: rent a car, shuttle, cab, lightrail.
The weather in August is very hot & with high humidty. Around 83o and watch for unexpected rain showers. Pack loose comfortable closes & comfortable shoes or sandles.
The hotel staff & convention security is very helpful to answer any & all questions you might have.
