My wife and I are rookie haunters. Our first semi-serious haunt was last year when we ran Hallowindow in one window, had a total of 7 small tombstones, 3 lit jack-o-lanterns, a fog machine, and about 30 feet of low skull fencing. Even with so little, our house was the hit of the neighborhood. Which, of course, inspired us for this year. So... we've been acquiring props over the last month or so. I''m sure I'll eventually go the DIY route and make a bunch of props. But, this year, the extent of my DIY is a fog chiller made into a 5 gallon bucket with lid.
We will be using 3 video projectors this year. One for "The Eye" in a living room window (we've been running that for a week already, much to the delight of the neighborhood). The second will be used for Grim Grinning Pumpkins. And the third will be used for Hallowindow, projected at approx. 8' wide x 7' tall in the opening of the garage door. Plus, more (store bought) tombstones (a total of 15 this year), a couple more jack-o-lanterns (we prefer scary faces/expressions.... none of that smiling stuff for our jack-o-lanterns), and more than twice as much of the (store bought) low skull fencing.
But two of the most exciting (store bought) props we've happened across were purchased yesterday. We found this great sign at a family-owned Halloween store:
We plan to mount that sign to the pole below the head on this prop:
We picked up that head-on-a-pole prop at Party City. They wanted $30 for it but the manager overheard my wife and I talking about whether it was worth $30 and he offered to let us have it for $20. SOLD.

I really like that sign. The skull is very Tim Burton-esque.

I am thinking about using projectors next year. What kind of projectors are you using? How much did they cost and where did you get them?
Thanks

One projector is an LCD model, borrowed from a friend. Another is a used LCD model I got off eBay for $135. The third is a used DLP model I get off of eBay for $300. The LCD models are both 1700 lumens and the DLP one is 2400 lumens. Plenty of light!

This isn't really an acquisition, but it's new. Took me about 5 hours to weave this web, today. As I was finishing, a neighbor said I must have some arachnid blood in my veins.

For the big night, the garage door itself will be replaced with a big white sheet on the left side, and black plastic on the right side (behind the web). I have a red flood lamp fixture to illuminate the web (I tested it tonight ant it looks great). And on the sheet side, I will be projecting Hallowindow. About 8 feet wide and 6.5 feet tall!

Mark,
That's a great web! How did you attach the spiral string to the radial strings?
