I've always just forced the head down onto about a 6 inch long piece of 3/4" diameter PVC pipe.
You must get some hellacious winds!

ya, i forced the head down as far as i could get it to go. even my mannequin head came off. they all came off, just trying to figure out better ways to build everything so i can eliminate some of these problems for next year. we had wind from 30-60 miles an hour for two full days. bent all my electrical fence posts so that made my fence come down, but now i see where i bought the wrong kind of fence posts, i do have some stronger ones but never noticed the difference till now.
i am thinking of having to to glue them on, but i wanted it so i could take it apart to store it, how do you use zip ties on the head?

Here's an idea I gave a friend the other day. They needed to attach a head to a prop but it also needed to be removable so I suggested that they cover the mount rod (pvc) with plastic wrap, fill the hole in the base of the head with great stuff and mount it, once it's dry, the plastic should allow the rod to slide out of the head and the great stuff would have formed a perfect fit to the rod.

I guess I am with Dave on this one. My heads are pushed down onto PVC with a very tight fit, and some not so tight. I think the only heads I have ever lost to wind were my elves last christmas. They were not a very tight fit. One thing I have done...but for a different reason...is to run a piece of fishing line through the bottom of the head and then secure it to the body frame, or neck, etc.

If you are looking for something secure that can still be dismantled, then I would consider using high temperature hot glue to secure your PVC neck into the foam head (it will not come apart again) and then where your neck meets the cross at your shoulders, drill a hole and insert a screw. Problem solved.

I just used hot glue to secure the foam skull onto the PVC neck of my grave ghoul and it will NOT come apart without leaving behind a nice chunk of foam.
