I have a couple of cheap sound-activated props that require a decent sound level to activate.
Any suggestions on alternate activation methods so they don't just hang there doing nothing?
    Thx!...

Will anyone be around? (other than TOTS) ?

In our haunt.... actors bang on walls or whatever is around. This is so that the next room knows that someone is coming. You could do that.

If I build it, will they come ?

Thx for the suggestion but this is for the front walk that leads up to our front door, just TOTS.
I'd love to do a footpad activation, maybe hooked to an ultrasonic emitter so people won't hear it but I'll settle for anything that increases the chances of activation when someone walks by.

Probably too late for this, but this Velleman kit could work:

It's an IR light beam that trips a buzzer when someone crosses it. I suppose you could have the buzzer on the sound-activated prop, but you could swap something out for the buzzer, such as a relay, that would trigger a prop as well.

Nice, that's a great idea, thx! If these things were easier to work on I'd just install a rheostat so I could adjust the sensitivity but I'd probably destroy them just trying to get them apart!

Well, it's a kit, so you could put in a variable resistor when you soldered it together. Not sure if this one would need it - it's a "Did someone cross the beam?" type of thing.

Sorry, I was referring to working on the prop, not the IR buzzer kit.
