Here is a skull prop I'm working on for this year. It's still a work in progress. Next steps include:
- Veins on the skull
- Arteries on the skull
- Veins on the eye
- Haze over the eye with a wash of white paint
- Outer layer of corpse skin
- Shiny coating on eyes, teeth, veins/arteries, and muscles
- Few more colored washes (brown, black, etc)
- Paint in a few more fine details and shadows
- Flip skull and cover underside and jaw interior
I apologize for the poor quality photos. Just snapped these on my phone last night. I'll get better shots when the prop is finished.

You can find a tutorial for this, and a more zombified version here: http://www.youtube.com/user/agent385
His tutorials are great, and all based off of common industry techniques. I liked the expression he used, so I went the same direction, but I've used a few of my own techniques and will be adding some different details in the next stage.
Basically, it's all liquid latex, cotton, paper towels, and washes of acrylic paint. I use Liquitex acrylics because I normally use those when doing special effects makeup. (For making pax or tinting latex)
The next steps will be all about adding in finer detail and a bit more anatomy.
I have 2 more skulls that I'll be doing after Halloween. One with two eyes, and one with no eyes and a removable jaw.

You can get them from various dental supply stores, or online. What you are looking for is acrylic teeth.
In my case, I just ordered upper and lower anterior (front) teeth from Monster Makers (https://www.monstermakers.com/produc...eeth-sets.html) but they do not offer the posterior (back) teeth, so I used the posterior teeth that came with the model. And to be honest, they cost more at Monster Makers than you'll find from a local dental supply place. (under $10 a tray), so shop around!
The real trick is finding a local place. So good luck!
