I followed a tutorial on here that showed getting 3 things and it was so easy a ghoul can do it. Get one of those cheap outdoor motion sensors that are single or double light holders (like flood light holders)m cheapest is walmart, I got mine at a yardsale. Then also at walmart I got a strand for a buck or so of a plug, like an extension cord, that already had the end stripped to the wires. So instead of a female plug its the wire ends. Then you get these while there, they come in a pack of 2, the female sockets with screw caps like a lightbulb has.

Once you get the stuff its just a matter of putting it together. Screw the female caps into the motion sensor light housings, so instead of bulbs you have sockets to plug your lights into for your display, or anything else you want. And on the motion detector where you would attach the wires to your house you attach the cord with the wire ends to it with the right colors. and voila.

My motion sensor had a red and black wire and the cable with wire ends had dashes to indicate "color", though it doesnt say. Obviously a solid line was black so I attached that one to the black wire on the motion detector and the other one regardless of dashed lines to the red wire on the detector.

Just search the tutorials section for motion detector and youll probably find it, or even go back a few pages, it was pretty recent, if you want to see pictures. The tutorial I found showed cutting off the end of an extension cord but I was able to find one for a few dollars all ready to go so I didnt cut any good ones I already had.

We bought a motion activated security flood light set. It was about $12 at home depot. It has a motion sensor and two flood light sockets. Snip the socket end of an extension cord and wire the two copper wires to the unit, one side of the cord to one wire of the unit and the other to the other wire. Test mode keeps it on only when there is motion. When someone walks by it turns on, when they leave it turns off.

We are powering an electric chair prop with one of these. It consists of a strobe light, jigsaw, and 25 watt guitar amp. and works fine.
