Why wood? I use 2' rebar and you can get it at any Home Depot.

Look at Home Depot or Lowe's for tomato stakes. It's usually sold by the bundle.

    I second the rebar idea.

Ditto on getting rebar here is a quick how to,
Get the smallest diameter size rebar, 3/8 I think, and the lenght you need per tombstone, maybe two feet, and 1/2 inch pvc pipe. (note if you get 1/2 inch rebar you need 3/4 pvc pipe )
Hammer the rebar in where you want the tombstone to set.
Cut a section of the pvc pipe just a little smaller ( few inches) than the height of the tombstone.
Hot glue the pvc section to the back of the tombstone, paint to match if you wish
Slide the PVC over the rebar and voila, good luck

I went the cheapest route - the multi-pack of 5' bamboo stakes for $1.99. I think there were seven in mine, exactly enough. Cut 'em in half at an angle for sharp ends, some of 'em I even had to cut a little shorter 'cuz I couldn't push them deep enough into the ground. Garden center, Home Depot.

I used the left over PVC pipe from my yard stanchions that I drilled a setscrew and just use fishing wire to tie around the tombstone to hold it in place. It worked like a charm as yesterday we had winds of 50+ an hour and they all stayed put!

I'm not sure what it's called, but I purchased a box of small wire stakes that I got by the package of styrofoam. It's the same type of wire that comes with store bought tombstones. I've never had any problems with it. We had strong storms last year and wind really kicked and everybody stayed in place. The box was less than $10 and there's probably 50-100 stakes in a box.

Sauron the Great, ..... (LOL No one is ever “the mediocre” or “the inept”)

    Sorry, I got distracted again.

Hey can you post a picture of your mounting bracket? It sounds good.
