I have a wiper motor from a ford ranger that has 4 wires. the black wire is conected to one side of a contact switch and the red is attached to the other. The red side of the switch looks like it has one brush the mounting plate. The white and blue wires are also connected to brushes. I tried connecting the red and black wires and promptly blew my ps. Any ideas on how to connect this?

Maybe search for a wire diagram for that vehicle.OR get a small battery charger and use that to test.

Long shot, but do you know what year Ranger it came out of. I own a ranger and have a repair manual that might give you what you need. I am at work right now but I will check when I get home and let you know tomorrow. Keith

I got it figured out. I had to jump splice the black wire to the case ground. I connected the positive wire to the white wire thinking this is the slow speed and it worked. I believe the blue wire is the high speed. Now my problem is that the motor works for about 2 revolutions and stops, waits about 5 seconds and starts again. I think i need to check the gears. Next year i go to a low rmp direct drive motor

Sounds like you're going through a relay of some sort on the motor. If you can strip it down to the motor, you can solder 2 wires to the nodes, then use lets say a PC power supply that has molex (the 4 pin connectors) I believe the red is 5v and the yellow is 12v. That's what we used on ours this year.
