I got the pipes sealed with silicone caulk. However, the lid I can't get to seal with the silicone. It just falls off after it's dried. Any ideas on how to seal the lid?

How about trying some that self adhesive foam weatherstrip they sell for around doors and windows?

I just went to Home Depot an hour ago to get weatherstriping. I already had the kind that is very thick, that did not work. I got the more rectangular profile, that worked great after I also put a 25 pound weight on the top of the cooler to help it crush down the seal.

Don't Over-Engineer. My advice? Duct tape along the seam after you close the lid.

Or masking tape - use the blue painter's type for easy removal. Or even clear packing tape. Many tapes are quite moisture resistant once you press 'em down hard enough. I've used regular scotch tape outdoors for temporary fixes.

Duck tape the lid once you pack ice.
And since duck tape doesn't stick to itself, pre-tape the body and the lid, then you can temporary-tape the lid over the pre-taped edges.

hi,
I have tried duct tape which works well, but as the cooler gets colder and the moisture starts the tape starts to lose some of it's stick. The thing which works the best that I have found is the metal insulating tape which hvac workers use to tape the duct insulation together. Foil tape I believe is the name. It has a peel off backing and you can rip it with your hands or cut it with a razor knife. This stuff is built for this as it does not get effected by the temperature change from outside air to cold cooler. I run a few coolers some are insulated better then others. on one of mine i tape all around the lid except for the handle lip, it gives a cool effect to see some extra fog pouring from the cooler. Hope this helps.
I can post a picture of the foil tape if you are uncertain what I am talking about.
