    Hello

I am new to prop building and I would like to call on you guys for some advice. I am searching for alternative motors to use in a monster in a box prop. I have a oscillating fan motor in there now, but it does not turn the drive arm. I am seeking a suitable replacement motor, and would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thank you everyone,

    Happy haunting

hit your auto wreckers and ask for a cheap wiper motor.

if ya wanna save even move cash, take tools with ya, and rip em out yourself
(or at least thats how it works in these parts.)

$5 to $10 is all you should need. (and a power supply)

An old electric drill will work also.

I just got mine from Monster Guts.. can't beat it. Their price was certainly better than the $45 the wrecking yard wanted... probably not too late to get one.

    Two ideas:

    (1) Use a surreptitiously-routed rope to provide the monster-in-box action.

    (2) Put a real monster (kid/dog/duct-taped-neighbor-who-didn't-return-your-power-tool) in the box.

Ok. Maybe the last one is a bit much (wink), but you might actually convince a youngster to volunteer to be a monster for a while, especially if it involved earning money. (This is how we used to do it as kids.)

Thank you everyone for responding with your awesome ideas, I appreciate it. I did find a windshield wiper motor at a wrecking yard for 20$ and the idea about the neighbour will be a back up plan should the motor stop working...

    You guys are awesome.

I'm using a power wiper motor from a project truck we have laying around in the yard. For me it was free. But sounds like you got a motor. Mine works well and to power it I just clamped battery charger clamps to it.

For those of you going to your local scrap yard for wiper motors, don't forget to pick up some power window motors and or power seat motors they have lots of torque and are very small.
