I built a monsyer mud reaper and ran out of mud while dressing him. Came back with a new batch and have a color matching problem. Any ideas on bringing the color together? Can I use paint to coat one color? If so after or before the sealer??

I paint all my MM props after I let them dry realy well then put the sealer on. There is a recipie for MM but if you dont have exactly the same color and whatnot it wont turn out the same. But painting is not a problem and can make for a great time to add something to your prop

But if you paint with Acrylic paint wont the sealer not soak in? Or are you painting them after the sealer?

I paint before the sealer. But I also use latex paint. The sample jars are cheap and can be diluted easily. For large props I can get all the colors I want all the way up to 5 gallons. And what I love is the Oooops paint at Lowes is only 5$ a gal and since I paint all my props as long as its a dark color I get it cheap. I use acrylic for a few shadowing and small effects on my props but I stay with latex for the most part. We have several pictures of our props on the board you can look up my wife and our haunt thegardenofshadows to see what the MM looks like after its painted and sealed. We have several that have seen about 5 years of rain and sunshine and still look great.

I should appologize a standard latex house paint is 20 % acrylic and 80% vynil ingredients, When I hear acrylic I assume acrylic craft paint wich has a much higher percentage of acrylic in it thus the more expensive price per ounce. And an iteresting fact that latex paint doesnt contain any latex lol. But yes I should have asked before I answered it is the same. Unless your using smaller craft type bottles then the paint will dry differently because of the higher acrylic content and may be a bit tougher to seal. And if you use any paint that contains very little acrylic and a high amount of PVA (polyvinyl acetate) it will not stand up as well and may need more seal and will have trouble in a high UV situation. So enough tech stuff sorry to bore lol Happy Halloween

Exterior latex house paint is 100% Acrylic. The difference between the house paint and Acrylic craft paint is the binders added to the house paint (water). The water evaporates when the paint is applied and the 100% Acrylic is whats left and because it's 100% Acrylic, it's also water proof and no other sealer is necessary. The Acrylic craft has less binders in it. At least that is my understanding of it and I probably use any where from 200 to 300 gallons of 100% Acrylic ext. paint a year.
I'm sure you can still find "latex ext. paint"without the Acrylic but it will be the really cheap kind like big lots might carry.
