G'morning
I have a question regarding Tombstones
I have this tombstone that is store bought you know the ones made out of that styrofoam of some sort and then painted. Anyways I was wondering if the rain can damage them?
I don't set up until Halloween morning but this year seeing everyone's set up makes me what to put up some stuff early. Our weather claims rain Sunday and thunderstorm Monday. Sunny California is getting some rain. Does the rain hurt the condition of the Tombstone at all?
Here is a pic of the tombstone in question
Thanks

I've got lots of store bought tombstones and they really, really don't get damaged because of rain. The paint will weather from sun exposure and the stone itself can get screwed up by wind popping it loose from the crappy little spikes they sell the stones with, but I have never had a problem with rain hurting anything.

how do you secure your tombstones?

We have used the same set of Styrofoam tombstones for the past three years and they have held up pretty well....actually I like the way they have weathered a bit. We also add some spider webs and moss to them to give a more "Aged" look to the graveyard:

Okay.. so on the same subject... will the stones made of white styrofoam (the kind that breaks up into little white balls... the only kind we can get here in California) damage in the rain? I made some simple stones years ago and never really cared if they got a little damaged.. I could always just spray paint them again. But, I have made a couple nice ones this year and would like to keep them as nice as possible..
What is up with this rain in So Cal?? We're not supossed to get rain until AFTER Halloween!! It's an unwritten rule!! lol

i am from the uk, but i believe you are talking about polystyrene (the type of "styrofoam" that breaks up into little white balls - that stick to everything you don't want them to stick to...)
there is no problem with leaving polystyrene out in the rain, it is not affected in any way by rain, although can get damaged if it is blown over etc.
also - i can assure you that you that what weather you are getting is nothing like spending halloween in the north of england!!!

If you go out to straighten your stones after a rain the paint WILL come off in your hands but they don't get washed away clean. That is a nice stone that can easily be repainted if /when it needs it.

You said this... The only kind we can get here in California) I get mine in Cali and they are not the little white balls one. I got this one that is showing in the picture at Halloween Club open all year in Santa Fe Springs and one in City of Commerce both off the 5 freeway.
or did I misunderstand you when you said the statement about California?Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM!!

I have tons and we have gotten ridiculous amounts of rain over the years. Especially this year (in NY). They hold up fine!
