I need some advice....I have my reaper spray painted and done except for the fact I skipped the drylock stage because I didn't want the stone appearance...what can I seal this 8 ft thing with now that the paint is already on? What would happen if i did nothing and it rained...turn to mush? I have heard some people use "spar eurathane"...went to a sears hardware and they had no clue what that is(what is this?)... they gave us regular indoor polyeurathane...I am thinking it needs to go back and we need an outdoor type?HELP!

    baboomgirl,

I have used regular wood sealer (two coats) for my monster mud props. I use Olympic because it is the cheapest that I could find (less than $8 per gallon; Thompson's was over $10). A little goes a long way.

I also use that to protect my paper mache props and they have held up fine for two years now in the rain. When it has rained really, really hard the mache has gotten only slightly spongy but as soon as it dries it hardens right up again.

I'm pretty sure if it protects paper mache from damage it will protect a MM project too. It might soften a little like the mache did, but it will stiffen right back up when it dries.

Any water seal should do the job. Without it your mush comment would be right on the mark!

Try a spray-can of water repellent. (sometimes called Camp-Dry ) used to protect tents. It can be found at most sporting goods stores
