Okay guys, please be gentle here. I couldn't get a costume idea together for the longest time. I woke up out of a dead sleep with my idea. We are doing a vampire theme to our haunt this year and my epiphany was to go as the vampire hostess with the mostest Alice Cullen.
That then began this whole decor stream in my head of the walkway up to my house being lined with red and black fabric and fog and foliage with the score to twilight playing as the TOTs walk up. So I know most peeps dislike Twilight but I thought playing off it for a haunt theme might work. Concept I have, BUT I don't know how I would get the woods effect without spending a fortune. Does anyone know how to make the feel of the woods without buying a forest?
Thanks in advance!

We dig old tree branches into the ground around our walkway then string the dark purple lights in each tree.It uses alot of cords but looks really cool.

Maybe go by large sheets of foam from lowes or homedepot and paint them brown, cut them in tree trunk shapes? You can also by woods scene setters at party stores or halloween stores for around $15.00 for a large roll.
halloween is a super cool holiday.

That would be great but I barely have a yard and no trees. I live in SoCal so It's mostly hardscape. I think I am going to use a popup for added coverage but there has to be a way to give the vibe of a forest. Hmmmm....
Thanks for the idea though.

I automatically give you a positive 10(not lame!) because you are a fellow socal member!

But yes, where there is a will there is a way! You can go to a local 99 cent only store and buy the haunted forest scene setters to place on walls or between areas you desire coverage.
You may also opt to get foil and use it to create a mold by pressing against a local parks tree or neighbors tree if they dont mind. Then get chicken wire to create a roll(column) and place the foil around it without losing total shape. Last hot glue it in place then spray paint it dark brown!
The best idea though would be to look for any broken down or old trees nearby and ask the property owner if they mind parting with the large branches or piece of bark. That has always looked best in my eyes and its free if you meet the right person! I'd explain to them the reasoning for the need and they usually will help you load it into you car!
Hope it all works out for ya!

I cut down small trees and branches and stake them in the yard with a T-iron post (lowes and HD have them in the fencing section) and zip ties, works great
