I don't think I could work there, it'd stress me out watching people man-handle all those sacred props! Of course as a customer I have scored discounts on "broken/non-working" props.
They live. They die. They return. Zombies.

Sounds like a great business opportunity for anyone who is good at reviving dead props. Trade your time making repairs for free or reduced price stuff.

too bad most of theyre animated stuff is Gemmy made garbage designed to last about a week...for reliable motion props learn to build your own on these forums or buy from "real" prop companys.....ck out DC Prop shop or other reputable mfgrs.

The props do take a beating, that's for sure. Not only can't they take a beating, but they sure do get one. It's like the demo props get ten years worth of working time in three weeks- if they make it. In fact, if a demo makes it through that I'd buy it. THAT one is sure to be a good one!

When I was in my spirit last weekend demonica was not working, and the zombie barrel prop was set up wrong, making it tumble twice while I was there. And then an employee would go over and set it up wrong again. The staff don't really know the props all too well, nor do they care much I don't think. That's when I wished I worked there- to keep all the props set up right and looking their best. But then I looked around and noticed the biggest job there besides working the register is the person who walks around constantly picking up the incredible disaster people, parents, and kids think it's just fine to leave behind. I can't believe how badly the merchandise and the store gets abused. I swear at times things are literally flying and whizzing around and dumped over. And they just walk away. It's amazing. Where do people get the freakin nerve I just don't know. If I knock something over, I pick it up. If I put something back, I return it to the spot where I got it from. I don't bash things, stomp on things, or anything like that and I would NEVER let my kids get away with it. But, it's all fair game now. Everyone, especially the kids, were merciless on the prop triggers, be it the floor pad or the big try me buttons. They just beat the crap out of them.

Who I really feel bad for is the management. In all halloween stores I've been in thus far, most are in a constant state of crisis over not having enough help at any given time- especially register. That, and cleaning up what amounts to a day care that's gone arry at every moment.

We just got a spirits this year for the first time. Some cool stuff, although not pro level. So I just went tonight for the first time and asked if I could put some flyers up for my haunt and the lady said I wish I could let you, but we have a contract with scream something or other. Not a hunt around here, I think it may be a couple hours away in St. Louis.

On the other hand we have local ran halloween express store in town and they let me put flyers in there, even cards at the counter and a big sign on the wall towards the counter. Right after I put it up I saw people pointing at it and someone told me the lady at the store even sent them to my haunt and talked us up. We barely know them. the store is always packed.

So this is me being a baby, but as I walked away from the lady in the Spirit store I said, I was going to buy some stuff and left. So I will continue to spend my money with the local store that supports local haunts. We have 3 in town and they support them all, which is what they should do.
