I have been "creeping" here last few days and youse guys are awesome, lots of great ideas. My question is I am building graveyard for my first yard display/haunt and in the front of my house I have soffit lightning above where graves will be. Should I leave lights off or change to color bulbs (blue, black, green). Also in the porch/ front door (trick or treat door) area right next to graveyard there are additional soffit lights what should i do with them? Thanks for the help and happy haunting!

Definitely change to colors...red, blue green... give it a creepy look... regular white light I think is too stark and may wind up putting a spotlight on your dark and creepy stuff! For your porch lights...you can try blacklight bulbs...its a great effect at the door you will be answering.

Thanks for the advice this is what I have thus far considering first year budget.

    7 grave stones
    1000w fog machine
    5 gallon bucket fog chiller
    pop up zombie
    i am building fence
    various body parts and skeletons
    cob webs
I will pick up the bulbs black for porch and blue and green and red for soffits
I have about 7 pumpkins to be carved.

I need a good animated (inexpensive) prop to get the screams but havent found anything yet.

I agree with baboomgirl.....go for the black lights around the front door and I would swap out the soffit lights with green ones. You might also want to think about a couple of small floodlights in your graveyard at ground level along with a fogger.....that is a very cool effect....!

Don't forget to post pics of your haunt when you are done!!!

People have been buying these $0.79 LED lights for simple lighting. I got a bunch for this year for my tombstones. Check this thread where someone's done a great write-up on how they look.

No. Mine are each powered by 3 tiny coin cell batteries. It'll be a pain to change them out for next year, but for $0.79 each, I may just buy new ones.
