I made the same prop last year and used shopping bags to fill him up. worked pretty well. I had to have a cushion on my couch replaced this year and I replaced the bags with couch cushion. works excelent.

I've use old clothes, but if your prop is hanging and animated they may add too much weight.
I also use shopping bags or other packing material (peanuts, or puffed air bags) which are lighter but may add a crunching sound.

The best is cotton batting (the stuff they fill pillows with) which you can find at any craft / fabric store.

Yeah I would go with the batting....It holds its size well and has vary little weight!!! I am using industrial size rolls from our local morgue for my walling in our asylum scene this year.

We used large batting with 2 queen sized white sheets for each asylum wall section....Go to a fabric shop and get a butt load of large white buttons (the kind that have white material on the top)....For our actors in that area, we made straight jackets and have them chained to the walls by their necks. One of them is the real nutty one and while the crowd is in that section they will constantly be trying to get at em.....The thing is her chain will pop out of the wall and she gets loose. We also have a plant with every group just for this scene. Our plant wears a face full of liquid latex painted to their own shin color. When "Loony Luicy" breaks free she grabs the plant and starts ripping the skin from their face!!!! Its always a crowd pleaser

All in all what every good haunt really hangs on is lighting!!! You have to be able to set the mood and draw the people into the scene. I found some old fluorescent lights, aged the crap outta them and set them up to flicker and what not. Just the sound of those bulbs cracking on and off is enough to drive anyone mad!!!
