Ok, this year I am going even further out by building the axe killer door, which is almost completed. But I have also been buying some really cool items from Frightprops. One of which is the shocking mat that you attach to walls and when you touch the mat it gives a nice little shock. I wanted help as to how to drive the people to touch it. I have some plywood i was going to put on both sides and make it narrow but any help would be great-thanks !!

Also wanted to say that the shocking mat works great. Has three settings from light to intense. Nicely made.

No one has any suggestions as to how to drive the patrons of my haunted garage to reach out and touch the wall where I will have a shocking mat in place.

I"ve seen the shocking mat from frightprops, I must say though is it such a great idea? Especially for a home haunt, all it will take is one parent/kid to touch it and have some sort of issue and you end up in court over it or something. Sorry I do not wish that on anyone, but with sue-happy people out there it could definitely happen. I'm sure that some large haunts may use this shock mat, but they also have deep pockets and insurance to cover it.
Now as far driving someone into it I would say have a drop panel on the opposite side from the mat, make the hall narrow and hope for the best. Just make sure that the wall that the mat is on is pretty solid if people are going to be hitting up against it a lot.

What is the scene that the shock mat is in? The drop panel is a great idea. What other details can you give us?

My setup is three phases. First, strobe light confusion walk way when you first enter. Then, when you turn into the next walking section is where it's going to be pretty dark with threads hanging down like walking through cobb webs ( that is where the shocking mat is going ). Then the last phase is the axe killer door with an insain asylum setup around it. But when you are leaving I have real 55 gallon metal drum converted into a haunted drum which shakes and screams out haunted sounds at the exit door.
As for the shock mat and issues with law suits, etc... I am not to worried as it has three levels of shock. I have tested it and it's not bad at all, just freaks you out a bit ( at least on the low level ). I will give plenty of warnings to the parents and survey who is going to be going in prior to letting anyone in.

How about a scrim with a giant spider behind it with red lit eyes. At the right time you could turn on some lights behind the scrim lighting the spider and have a loud screaching sound play, that would cause them to move away and into the trap...... ?

Sounds good. It's a two car garage so space is sort of limited. I am for sure making the shocking area very narrow and using plywood hopefully on both sides to funnel them into that area. I just need to leave room for the asylum portion as it has both a trip mat for the door and a trip sensor for the haunted drum.

Hey hope you didn't think I was knocking the shock mat too hard. Frightprops is selling it so obviously they know what they are doing! I think the narrower you funnel the traffic and the scare combined will push them into the mat. Just make sure it isn't too narrow or they may not want to go through once the mat hits them hah

Best way to get somebody to touch something is to put a big sign up that says, "DO NOT TOUCH!" Or something of the like.
