I am doing the tempt your fate game and wanted to put a fortune teller ball on the table. I dont need a real crystal or an animated one but I am having a time finding it. Any suggestions?

I bought one of those gazing balls at homegoods this summer that you put in a yard for a Crystal Ball. Is very shiny and has a crackled type finish, so you can see your reflection in it. Its a good size too and has a flat bottom on it..just a suggestion

I don't know how long it takes to ship, or if they can expidite shipping, but found super cheap 6" gazing balls ( not sure what size you are looking for either) for $6.79, before shipping. Here's the link, hope it helps.

Here's a low-tech version that I did many years ago when my daughter wanted to be a gypsy for her Halloween party.
The ball was nothing but a frosted globe meant for a light fixture but we made it light up by cutting a hole in the "table", which was actually a big cardboard box covered with cloth and whatknot to make it look like a real table. Under the table and directly under the hole was a lamp with a green light bulb. It shined through the ball and looked really cool.
Cheap, easy, and got the job done!

You can also vary MadameLeota's version of the glass ceiling fan globe and use glow sticks. Find one of the white frosted look round globes. Turn it upside down on a black plate and put some glow sticks under it. It gives off a nice eeiry glow. I found a gold colored globe this weekend that has the cracked looking glass. I picked it up for 39 cents to see what I could do with it. I then stopped at a garage sale around the block and bought a small light that I set the globe on and I have an instant crystal ball that sits up high. I will add some photos later tonight of these.

    Taking it a step further...

You can get the light fixture globe, and then carve a base out of foam (the pink/blue stuff) so the lip of the fixture is hidden.

You can get a perfect circle by taking a nail, inserting it into a square of foam and tying a string to it and then tying a pen/pencil to the end of the string and keeping the nail firmly in place while swinging the drawing tool in a circle with the string stretched to it's full length all the way around (you technically can do this with a knife as well, but it's safer to use the pencil and just carefully cut it out after).

Once you have the main circle (you want it at least a few inches larger than the globe itself), put the globe in the center of that, mark where the lip falls, then cut out the inside of the stand/base. You'll be tracing the OUTSIDE of the lip, so cut on the inside of the line you just drew to get a snug fit.

Get some fine grit sand paper, and you could bevel and round off the base, and then paint it to look like wood, marble, metal (whatever you like) and snug the globe down into it, and you've got a crystal ball with a base and opening underneith for sticking in lights or whatever. You could just cut out a depression too if you want it where the base is solid on the underside.

You could do square or round and carve in some pretty nifty details too:
