I'm running low on funds at this point and so instead of buying the Fearscape voodoo mask that I'd really like to use, I picked up a cheap 4.99 mask at CVS this morning that I'm hoping I can alter with paint or makeup in the face area to create a similar kind of look. My question is what should I use to apply to the latex mask so that it won't deteriorate the mask? I'm thinking either some type of paint or even halloween makeup if it would work. If I used Makeup on latex, would I be able to remove it without it staining? Could I use some kind of water-based paint that could be washed off without staining? Anyone with experience doing this kind of thing? If I need to permanently alter the mask that would be okay, but it might be nice to wash off the effect too. Mainly I don't want to have whatever I put on it eat through it.

If the mask is made of latex, my guess is that latex-based paint would work just fine on it. Or you could get different colors of liquid latex and use them to 'paint' the mask.

I know I've seen unpainted latex props being sold online and have read on labels for a few of the ones I own that they are "hand-painted" so I know it's do-able. When we talk latex-based paint are we talking the kind you buy in the hardware store, or should I be looking toward craft or model making stores or sites?

hello--i`ve repainted several latex rubber items with liquitex paints avialable at craft stores ,they stick to latex rubber great just make sure you wash the latex rubber items first with liquid dish soap.makeup has oils in it wich will ruin the rubber over time.hope this helps
