I've been working on putting a nice spooky archway to welcome trick or treaters to the house.
Basically I'm using 1 inch pvc pipe. Its 7 feet tall connected with pvc couplings ie fit 2 long pieces straight together to make the 7 foot high colums, and 4 45 degree angles to join the two sides together about 8 feet up.
Its cheaper to buy the 10 foot pieces and cut them yourself or have home depot cut them for you.
After paint I'm going to wrap it in lights and hang one of those dropdown spiders from it!
To keep it in the ground I have 2 pieces of rebar 4 feet high which will go 6 inches down and the pvc will go right over it to keep it upright.
All in all with liquid cement and pvc pipe and spraypaint came to a grand total of 28 dollars. (not including the lights or spider)
Hope this idea inspires others as you have me!![]()

Yes pics please! I built one a few years ago only using 3" PVC with a cemetery sign that spanned the two side poles. We had horrible winds that year and it fell down almost every other day. It was rebared down and even had bases made from 60lbs of cement for each side. Still fell down with all that weight. I must have just built a big sail to catch the wind I guess. I scrapped the poles and attached the sign to my brick looking pillars for my entry to the cemetery. Hopefully you have better luck than I did.
The attached pic is what it ended up looking like.

Here is the entry sign we built - it spans the driveway and is tall enough to drive an SUV under.
The pillars are made from plywood, cut with a router to look like brick. The support posts are PVC and the main span is build out of plywood cut into the arch shape. The letters are individually cut from 1/4" mdf.
Sorry about the picture quality, but its hard to get a good nighttime shot.

That's REALLY impressive. Very professional looking. Now I want brick posts like you have on either side of my driveway to do something like that.

Looks good.
I like the homeless person in the background by the fire pit.
