Came up with a simple idea which I think turned out really well. We don't have anything above our garage but I thought we needed a window so a creepy figure could peer out at passers-by.
I just built a simple wooden frame made to look liike a window and lined the inside with a piece of white semi-opaque drop cloth (so you can't see the bricks or the silhouette during the day). I cut out a silhouette from poster board and glued it behind the cloth. Then, I drilled two small holes in the top at slight angles and inserted two homemade mini led spotlights. Voilą!

Very nice effect.
Really looks like a window.

That is great! I might use that idea for my upstairs regular windows!

Thanks all. I thought for next year I might put a servo up in the window behind one of the hands and have it pull it back a bit and push it forward. The shadow should theoretically get bigger or smaller then as it moves - it might look like someone is pounding on the window. I suppose a silhouette of a fist might be better. My wife wants me to add bars to the window (again, silhouette) so I might take it down and add strips of paper behind to accommodate that.
Of course a soundtrack of someone banging on a window/door would be good for this prop too. So many things - so little time

I love the simplicity yet how well it accomplishes it. Outstanding!
