I'm in the process of building my first FCg for next year. I know the motor of choice is the old Dayton 2z806 that you can purchase from monster guts. I've been looking around for some other options. I've found these so far...any opinions or comments? I'm leaning towards the cheap 9 buck ones. http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.as...-1712&catname=

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, as I'm sure it has.
Thanks Harry

Hey,
The first motor you posted is for intermittant use....not a good choice as you should be looking for something designed for continuous use.
I use an old X-ray processor motor from a Gendex GXP X-ray Film Processor. You may need to use a laptop AC/DC adapter to get the right amount RPM for a FCG. It is fantastic. I use the same motor to drive a 3 headed tombstone peeper with alot of weight to move. If you can find a dental company which installs digital X-ray sensors you may be able to get one free if they are disposing of the X-Ray processor. Call your dentist and they should be able to give you the contact numbers for the Dental Distribution companies in your area. (if you live in Ottawa Canada - don't call Patterson Dental - it's my source...lol)
Please note that if you can find a Dentx 810 basic motor you will have to have the control box to operate the motor. These are awesome because they come with a tonne of torque and have some potentiometers to adjuts the three built in speeds.
X-Ray processor motors are designed to run continuously for 8-10 hours a day drving a mini conveyour belt. They are built to last 30 years.
They're awesome.
Hope this helps a littleWhen storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.

You know what I just noticed that as I was reading the specs. Must have missed it the first time round. Thanks for the tips I'll look into it.

Monster Guts no longer sells the Dayton motor (which has been discontinued), but has a motor from another manufacturer (Rex Engineering). Unfortunately, they are sold out of those right now and don't expect to get any for another couple of weeks. You can, however, buy the new motor from other sources.

Reindeer motors, they're cheap ($8-$12), sealed 110v & have torque. & they are the right speed for FCG's. Used to use other motors like daytons, some got too hot,
then swapped over to reindeer motors, been using them myself & they hold up great !When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

I just switched my FCG motor to a reindeer motor and it seems to be a good choice.

Any source for buying just the reindeer motors? I like the 8-12 price tag!

Has anyone ever thought of useing a clear head for their FCG? Something like this. http://www.allendesigners.com/produc...play_Head_Form I think this would give it any eerie look...you could see the detail of the face, yet see through it. Much like a real spectre. If does not work, you can always use it to make your own foam heads.
