I have a question on using a Chainsaw in my haunt this year. I was wondering if any of you out there know of a really good chainsaw that is a prop but has great sound effects??? I wanted the effect but was wondering if there was another way of getting the effect without actually using a real chainsaw. This way i wouldnt have to worry about anyone getting hurt.
Linus: You've heard about fury and a woman scorned?
Charlie Brown: Yes, I guess I have.
Linus: Well that is nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of tricks or treats!

Take the blade off the saw and the only way anyone would get hurt is if they get it dropped on them

Seriously - an unbladed chainsaw is no more dangerous than a hammer. Well, I guess you could get burnt on it if you really tried to... but all the hot parts are pretty well shielded.

The one at Garden Ridge is pretty good. I tested it out not too long ago, it was LOUD.

We used a real chainsaw last year in the haunt (minus the chain) and had ZERO problems. The only possible injury I can see is if you accidentally hit someone with it, and that would just mean a little bigger bruise than if you hit them with a plastic one. We ran a lightweight, low horsepower saw and it never ran hot, always started on the first pull, and our actor didn't get tired (I also think he was having too much fun to get tired, that helped!). It was also a gas-powered saw, in an enclosed barn, and the fumes were not an issue at all. I would definitely recommend trying it. If nothing else - at least you can see if it will work for you, before spending your money on a plastic one.

Here in Vegas they convert the Adventuredome amusement park in Circus Circus into Frightdome for Halloween...in one of the sections (it's huge, each section gets a theme), crazed killers run around with live chainsaws with no blades, chasing people around and acting, well, crazy. I figure if a big commercial entity like MGM Mirage Corp considers them safe enough to swing around kids, then it's probably safe enough for an adult to swing at a home haunt.

...because apparently I take my moral guidance from casinos now...
