I've been drooling over these candles from Grandin Road ever since they came out but $69 for a set of fake candles (albeit large ones) is just way out of my budget.
So I decided to make my own! I got the measurements off GR's website and went to Lowe's to get the necessary materials. After looking at PVC pipes in the diameters given on the website I decided that they were ridiculously large. I decided to go with 2" pipe for all three (I think they were supposed to be 3", 2 1/2" and 2"). The tallest candle is 2' and the shortest one is 18".
I spent $27 on the pipe, caps, cord, plug, sockets, and bulbs ($.99 each in the Christmas section at Hobby Lobby).
My father-in-law is an electrician and he did all of the technical work on wiring the candles. I did the fool-proof things like wrapping tape, pulling cords through holes, and holding things in place when he needed the extra hand.
I used 2 1/2 bags of mini hot glue sticks from The Dollar Tree to make the "wax drips". I already had the glue but cost would've been $2.50.
It took an entire can of spray paint ($.97 at Walmart) to get good coverage on the pipes and glue. I did two coats.
I found a cool looking flower pot on clearance at Kmart for $2.69 and a three pack of black glittered pathway trees with purple lights at Big Lots for $12. I used some crumpled newspapers to hold the candles and trees in place and added two bags of spanish moss ($2) to the top. Voila! I'm in less than $50 for the whole arrangement!

Thanks all!
Kim, that is Moxie Rotten and she lives up to her name! Her sister, Roxy Balboa, was too busy batting at the camera strap to get in the picture.
