I am doing part of my walk through haunted garage as an insane asylum. I am already busy building the door to go along with Hi-Rez's axe killer dvd. I also have a jumping haunted barrel when they exit the garage after looking at the dvd. Just wanted some ideas as to what to place around the area both where they can and can not touch the static props in the asylum section. Just things that ad to the atmosphere and to give them that eerie feeling while being in there. I have three areas I am doing. The first is a strobe light as they enter with white duct tape on the black tarped walls. Then they have to turn into a small walk way with threads hanging down and a shocking mat on the wall which I got from Frightprops. Then they enter the last area which is the asylum section before exiting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on what you can find...

Would be great if you could find a few wheelchairs and gurneys to have in the halls. There's one haunt in my area that has a section through their asylum where you walk around a body covered in a sheet on a gurney and you're expecting it to jump up at you... and it doesn't. Instead someone walks up BEHIND you in a straightjacket.

Medical charts of brain scans on a lit up wall?

Medical cabinets with weird "specimens" inside? (do some searches here - there are some awesome specimen jar props and potion bottle contents that could be adapted)

Medical charts - especially with papers scattered all over?

    Rantings painted on the wall?

That is so funny as you say all of this. I have some walkers, an iv stand on wheels, xrays, etc... I must have had brain freeze when I typed this. Thank you so much for the suggestions.

Think about sounds that might be in there too in order to set the scene. Crazy moaning, screams, wailing. Also, for some reason, I'm thinking dripping water in the distance.

I love this song from the "Nut House" level in Redneck Rampage. If you listen long enough you might go crazy yourself.

Thanks for the sound idea. I will play something in the garage, but will keep is down so they can hear the axe-killer dvd. Probably set back in a far corner to kind of drift around. I saw a cd on Frightprops that's an asylum cd. Sounds pretty cool !

I am doing the same this year. I have a bunch of surgical instruments that I will be using in the bathroom for a treatment room. I have a guy hanging himself and wiggling from a tree. I also have this guy:

I wouldn't go the scary screams route. I'd do a REALLY scratchy, skip-py old version of Patsy Cline's "Crazy"....like you'd hear coming off a record player, lots of static. Maybe even slow it down. That'd creep the heck out of me.

Here's a way to add another dimension to the haunt:

You know that funky, sterile smell that hospitals have? Go to a local tattoo parlor and ask if you can pay them a couple of bucks to fill a small container with "green soap" (make sure they kind they use has that same scent). Spread it around on the floor at the entrance to the haunt so it hits ToTs as soon as they walk in.

Also, maybe some dim, dirty, single-bulb lights dangling down?
