What projectors are you using? I so badly want to try this out, but I would buy a projector almost exclusively for the use of Hallowindow...
I hear a lot of people are getting nice deals off eBay, but I'm skeptical to buy a high priced electronic from someone who can easily rip me off.
Any recommendations?

I'm using an Epson with 2200 lumes & a Infocus 1700 Lumes, both I got off craigslist. $300 for the Epson & $200 for the Infocus. I find it better locally as I was able to fire it up & check the Lamp hrs which important to the cost.
I got lucky on both with less than 100 hrs on them. Bulbs can cost $150-$250 & I didn't want to buy one & find out my bulb hrs were too hi Halloween nite !
!700 lumes would be the least for viewing, 2000-2200 better if you use it at dusk. Good deals on EBay yes, but make sure the seller has 100 percent rating & return policies. When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

I have an older Sharp-Vision projector i bought off EbaY for $50. The thing is as big as a suitcase (check my profile albums) but it works great. Although i haven't done a "dry-run" in my front window yet, i will post some pix as soon as i do but we have watched a couple of movies on it in the family room and it looks pretty good!
Oh, and not to hijack the thread but, bulbs can be had on Ebay cheap, yes, but the average price can go as high as $300-$400 even on Ebay!

Last year I bought a projector on eBay, was supposed to be working, got it delivered and the bulb was dead. Luckily the seller allowed me to return it. I was leary of trying that again, not wanting to get ripped off so I bought a new Aaxa P1 pico projector to use for my Hallowindow. It worked, but I wasn't satisfied with it. It would only work in a very small window no larger than 30 inches wide. Anything larger and it was very dim and washed out. I couldn't run several of the animations because they were difficult to view due to the washed out colors. The "eye" animation looked good if it was completely dark, any ambient light and the display wasn't noticable to those passing by because it was so dim and small in my window. After being so disappointed last year, I tried again and bought another projector on eBay. I got a nice Viewsonic 2500 lumen projector for $199. Now I can put my display in the big window and it will be bright. The pico's are good for singing busts/pumpkins and stuff like that where you want to hide the source. But for a Hallowindow type display, you're going to want a big projector with as many lumens as you can afford and as few hours on the bulb as possible.

I've wanted a projector for years and I've been looking on & off for quite some time. Finally, at all places Staples had a single store clearance of a BENQ SP820 for under $200.00. 4000 Lumens!
Aside from Halloween use, we've used it on nice summer nights to have an outdoor movie night. The Mrs Doom and the little ones really liked that.
For me, it really helps if more expensive items have year round use.
For Halloween, I'll project Hallowindow on a white shower curtain. It should add an additional layer to the haunt.Doctor Grim

You know, i have a panasonic ae-900u that is on its last leg (major issues) but it still projects a focused picture. Not super bright (1200lumens i think) but it is more than adequate. If your not projecting in daylight you don't need huge lumens to get the desired effect.
I use a cheap projector for my back yard theater too. I have been complimented on how good it looks, to the point that it is almost HD like. I project that on a 10' screen on movie nights. Bottom line, try Craiglist and don't go overboard on cost, there is really no need to have a premium set up for people to see for about 2 minutes.

This year I'll be using 4 projectors- all bought from craigslist or built from scratch:
3m LCD SVGA with polarizer issues- $20
NEC LCD SVGA- $10
Eiki XGA- $10
modified Infocus 1980's projector- $20
I have a 5th pj- a Dell XGA with heating issues- $20- but I don't know if I'll commit that.
All projectors will be mounted outside and fire into the living room, family, and dining rooms windows.
Should be fun!
