thought I'd share the initial WIP shots of my groundskeeper rocking chair prop.
$5 plastic skull from target.
toilet paper
left over wallpaper paste
left over latex paint
old rocking chair
3/4 and 1/2 inch pvc
bosch wiper motor
switching powersupply from an old arcade machine
So for starters, I needed a head to put on my wiper motor rocking chair prop I just built. What better than an old semi-zombie looking caretaker guy.
(photos of the chair coming soon)
He's dressed in a red flannel shirt, jean overalls and galoshes.
I jointed his knees so his feet always stay on the ground when rocking. Used a pair of Dollar General left and right hands.
Anyhow, onto the head progress...
First image is initial coat of wallpaper paste and paper towel
Next 2 images are after 2nd coat of latex paint toilet paper mache.
I built up the nose with tinfoil and then used the paper mache over top of that. Still needs some facial details, smoothing, eyeballs/lids and hair. Probably work on that tonight. I'm thinking of giving him a long-ish neck made from fabric in case I was to animate his head turning side to side keeping watch.
Hopefully looking to get him as creepy as this...
Lastly, trying to decide if I should have him turn on via motion sensor or just rock the night away.![]()

a glider rocker. haha. love it!
I added some clothes and chicken wire to the torso but i'm not at all happy with the body shape and proportions. My shoulders are too wide, I need to open up the legs a little more and limit the travel on the knees because the feet come back against the chair and limit the chair's travel.
Got a little more work to do before I post pics.

Great job. What did you use for the shape of the head? Is it a bought prop or did you make it? Either way he's looking really cool, can't wait to see how he looks finished.
