Has anyone ever built a maggot sifter mechanism? I've seen this used at a couple of the pro haunts I go to, its a neat effect that I would really like to re-create.

After a little googling, it's pretty much what it sounds like.

A machine, triggered by motion, that drops "maggots" onto unsuspecting customers. The maggots are rice or whatever you choose that will fit thru the machine I suppose.

They're pretty pricey at retail too!

Ok thats insane that it costs that much. I could build that for less than 20% of that.

Hopper... wiper motor to turn a sifter valve made out of aluminum... attached to a pressure plate/laser/motion activator. Most expensive part is the trigger and wiper motor. Could prob pull it off for under $100.

Hell. Now I wanna make one just outta principal. Nowhere to put it though...

You're right, the price is a bit much for what the mechanism actually does. It is a really cool effect though when coupled with some maggot filled body parts lining a hallway. You can buy the cheap bags of maggots on amazon.com for 3.99 for a bag of 48, that was what I was planning on using.

Heh. I'd love to have it in my house. My wife would murder me for having rice ground into the carpet

Wow thats a lot of money for a drop spreader with a small motor attached.

Here is the exact spreader they are using in green.

I am always amazed at how much people charge for the simplest of things.
