I am looking to purchase some plain (un-carved) foam pumpkins to use for the Grim Grinning Pumpkins (Singing Pumpkins). In previous years, it seems there were un-carved foam pumpkins in every store. This year, all I can find are already carved foam pumpkins. I'd just use the back of the pumpkin to project the faces on but all of the ones I've found so far have the light bulb sticking out the back.
I HAVE found the pumpkins they have at Michael's but, frankly, they seem the wrong color to me. Sort of too much brown and not enough orange. Plus, even their large size seems just a bit too small to me. I also found funkins.com but, holy cow, those are expensive.
Has anyone found any other good source for plain (un-carved) and relatively inexpensive foam pumpkins? Maybe I'll just be better off buying real pumpkins?
Thanks!
Mark

I've seen some who have made paper mache pumkins and filled them with Great Stuff foam. Then carved them as you would a funkin. A lot cheaper than the real funkin and you can customize the size. Stolloween.com has paper mache tutorials that are great. Last year Lowe's had a cordless dremel made for funkins carving.

Hobby Lobby has funkins - they are more realistic looking than the ones at Michaels, but a bit more of a pain to carve.
Garden Ridge is also an option, as is Joanne Fabrics.

Greyhawke,
THANK YOU for the tip on Joanne Fabrics! They did, indeed, have a couple of sizes of Funkins in stock. AND they were on sale. I picked up two 12" Funkins for $14.99 each. That's WAY cheaper than the Funkins web price!
Those two will be my "backup singers" (side pumpkins). I'd still like to find a nice tall (not carved) foam pumpkin (18-20" tall) for the center pumpkin. I've got a carved one that's 19" tall (had it for years) with the light in the bottom. So, I can turn it around and use the back of it if need be. But I'd rather find a tall one that's not carved if possible. I may end up using a real pumpkin. I'll see what the local stores get in stock.
Again, thank you! The two I picked up at Joanne Fabrics are perfect!!
Mark
P.S. For those that might be interested, Joann Fabrics also had the 9" Funkin in stock. Regularly $19.99 but on sale for $11.99.
