Usually 1 to 1.5 amps will keep you out of trouble.

it really depends on what you are using it for and which wiper motor you are using.

I had a wiper motor that I used on my fcg that would work on 1 amp and that was perfect to get 5 rpm out of it. I had many others that wouldn't run on 1 amp.

Torque and speed will play a part on what amperage you will need. I guess a good across the board amperage would be 3 amps. But really it depends on what you are using the motor for.

Bumping this thread for a related question:

I have the wiper motor that mguts is selling this year...I've seen 1-1.5 amps recommended, but I've tried two different wall warts (1A 9V, and 1A 13V) and for both of them, the motor hums and vibrates but the shaft does not turn. Too low of amperage?

    Halp?

I would say yes, not enough power. On average, it seems that a typical wiper motor will draw about .9 amps on low speed with no load. On high speed, about 1.5 amps. Again, that's with no load. Hang a prop on it and that number can go up drammatically.

    EDIT - That's at 12V btw.

Are you sure you have a DC Wall Wart. AC power to a DC motor will hum. Divide Watts by Volts and that will tell you how many amps you need. E.G. 5W/12V = .414 amps or 414 mA

Gah...you nailed it. I didn't even look. They are both AC. Hope I didn't do any damage.

Thanks...I guess I need to tear apart an old PC for the power supply...none of the local thrift stores have wall warts any higher than 350mA

To Kcharles - Good call! I didn't even think of that. One should never make assumptions...

To Jeremy - Have a look here- http://www.allelectronics.com/index....c+power+supply Usually a pretty reasonably priced source.
