    Hey all,

Such a crafty bunch, I gotta ask you all first...

I have a 4-foot round window on the front of the second floor of my house. I want to make a Haunted Mansion-style following eyeball. I was going to simply get a 4-foot balloon and use it as a mold, and paper maiche around it.

Didja ever ask how much money a decent 4-foot round balloon is? LIke $20 (including shipping). NO local store carries one...

I am all good on how to paint and light it and support it and all...

SO I ask my slick fellow haunters for some ideas on how to actually form the hemisphere...

    HOW?!?!?! do I make it?

    Thanks in advance.

I would first start by getting some poster board.
    Cut it into 2' squares.
Get a string, at least 2' long and tie it to a pencil.
Hold the pencil in the upper left corner, and hold the string firmly at the lowest point in the bottom left corner. String and pencil start on the same side.
Then draw while allowing the string to dictate the arc. If your pieces are perfectly square, and you hold the string tight, you should end up in the bottom right corner with a perfect quarter arc.

Cut out about 12 of these. Stack them all up and run duct tape down one of the long edges.
Now go between each one and add a strip of duct tape.

When all are taped you should be able to fan them out 360 and create the basic dome form.

I would then reinforce with strips of poster board taped as it crossed every support.
After 3 or 4 reinforcing strips you cover it with masking tape, then you're ready for the mache.

Should be a heck of a lot cheaper than $20

    Hope this helps.

thanks Dave, but WAY to small.

Fatman - I waslaying in bed for 2 hours stewing on this... I wound up thinking something along those lines...

I have loads of blue foam (Not in prisitne shape - I got about 400 sq. ft. of randomly shaped big-ish pieces from a construction site BUT WAS FREE!) and some chicken wire, so I was thiking about making a form with the foam, and then shaping the chickenwire, then papermachie on the inside and out, and build the chickenwire in, for structure...
