I haven't built anything with air yet so its probably best that i don't advise you on what you would need for this, but another way to do this would be with a wiper motor, this could be purchased from monster guts or you can usually get them very cheaply on ebay. You would also need a good power supply, 5v to 12v, the lower the voltage the slower the coffin will open, as well as this you should make sure that the power supply has enough amps, 4-5 amps is normally enough. If you set up a cam like this then you should get the closing/opening motion your looking for http://www.technologystudent.com/cams/cam1.htm

    Hope this has helped

    Thanks

    Phil

Oh i understand how the motion sensor would do that if you were to use air. Just incase you do decide to use a wiper motor, you could always purchase a prop controller such as the nerve center to achieve your desired effect.

    Thanks

I agree with Phil on starting off with a wiper motor if this is new to you. However I skipped that step and jumped right into pneumatics so it can be done

You can get all you parts from

    http://www.frightprops.com/

You can use a 3 way solenoid for this prop because the weight of the lid will close it. Which means a single acting cylinder.

    This may help you out

So your part list would be as follows

1 x 3/4 bore 6 inch stroke single acting cylinder and mounting hardware usually rod clevis, and rear pivot

1 x Male Connector Push-On Elbow (choice of thread size)

    1 x Quick Connect - Male Threads

    1 x Male Connector-Push-On Fitting

    20 feet of Polyethylene Tubing

    1x Exhaust Muffler

    1 x 3-Way Solenoid (choice of 12VDC, 24VDC, or 110VAC - MAC or STC brand)

Then if you wanted a controller and a PIR/beam/mat sensor add that.

How do you add the effect of the sound to the prop? Also, How do you keep it going for the banging effect instead of a one and done deal?

    Thanks. Great prop.

It's kind of hard to explain. But watch my video of my groundbreaker kit for sale in the for sale section it explains alot.
