I'm almost done with my Godzilla sized spider prop. I wanted to use black light to light it at night. I don't want the typical glow, I want a more dark, sinster look rather than neon.

I LOVE KY special fx crank ghosts! He has several FCG that are black and blue, or black and green, etc.

I would love this look for my spider, but can't find any products or how-tos on the web. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Here is a link to a KY special fx product for an example. TIA

PP, if you don't want the prop to out-and-out glow like a runway marker at the Airport, i would use some UV reactant paint (the brush on kind you get at any craft store) and lightly "dry brush" your prop in select areas simply to highlight or, if you have access, use a small spray gun to "dust" those areas with the UV paint. This is the technique i use on a lot of my props with the UV paint and blacklights. A little Highlight on the skull, some on the web for just a slight "reveal" but not too much so as to spoil the coming DOOM.....MWAH HA HAAAAAAAAAA! Best of luck to you. Write me if i can help somehow.......

Thanks, Wolf! I'm going to do some experiments on posterboard using your suggestions and see how it looks tonight. Thx!

Very good idea Wolf. I may have to try experimenting with that for next year. Do you have any pictures you can post?

That picture you linked to is very pixelated and distorted, so don't expect to get that look very easily. My guess is the item they took a picture of doesn't really look like that in person.

If you want a good, UV reactant web, try this with some UV glue sticks and a black light.

This is about the best i can do for now until i do setup for this year. I just began taking all of my boxes and coffins out of storage and i'm also working on 3 new projects which should be done soon (God willing). As soon as i have my stuff outta storage i promise some pix or maybe even a tutorial......"Scruff

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I am worried that it will look very funky during the daylight though. I'm going to do my painting experiment this afternoon.

My spider is over 40ft across! I will probably need multiple black lights for the effect....not counting for the rope webs.

    Your, display is awesome, Scruffy!

    Scruffywolf,

Which paints are you using? I have been to two local art supply stores and bought their recommended spray paints. Not a single one reacts under blacklight so far. Every speck of cat dander, clothing and my fcg boom with colour but not anywhere I have painted using the recommended paints.

Unfortunately both stores have a no return policy on the spray paint. One store refused the return and I didn't bother with the other. My unfinished tombstones look very bright at the moment from the non-uv reactive paint.

    Thanks.
When storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.

These are the paints that i have been using with my spray gun. They are water based so i simply dilute them to the desired consistency and begin spraying my prop. Of course, you can achieve your desired effect by changing "thickness" and spray angle. These are all paints that react nicely to UV light and a few of them even glow in the dark (like the paint on the skull). These paints are usually called "poster paints" and can be found in most art supply stores (Michael's) I tried to find one of my black lights to take pictures but couldn't (sorry). Usually, i simply give my props a light "dusting" of UV or "Glow" spray and leave it at that. My FCG has a little bit heavier coat of UV paint on him but, you get the idea.......'Scruff
