Does anyone know where i can get cheap LED lights and do they make them battery operated or can you tell me how to make them battery operated. Mind you i have no electric source close enough on the hayride to use it. I also have a very limited budget. Any suggestions would be helpful. thank you

Here's a source for some cheap single LED lights, battery operated. I love these lights, ordered 10 of each color. They really throw a good deal of light for a single LED.

There is a whole thread that started around these lights, but I couldn't locate it right now.
Good luck!

I would also recommend buying some spare batteries for the lights, especially if your display will be up around the 16th. I'm not sure yet how long the batteries will last on these. They are AG10 button batteries and each light takes 3. They can be found pretty cheap online.

I got 30 of these and when they arrived one was on inside the box. If you assume it was accidentally switched on during packaging then the travel time would have been about 2 days, and it was glowing at about 1/2 intensity.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

allelectronics.com sells LEDs that are all battery operated. they are 3-5 volts depending on which kind you get. they sell the batteries, battery holders, wires, switches, anything you can think of to make your setup just the way you want it. you could wire a bunch of them together and connect them to the battery on your truck/tractor that is pulling the hay ride.
MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE WINNING SIDE, STILL NOT CONVINCED ITS THE WRONG ONE.
