Ill see if I can find the box that mine came in and give you some info in the morning. Works pretty well and came with a CD. It has a 'mic' and a 'line in' input.
Its the most HORRIBLE time of the year.
, I apoligize in advance for any misspelled words.

It's called a Lightening FX box, usually about $25, they have ones for xmas- same box white with a green xmas tree- Halloween one, black with an orange lightening bolt.......
the xmas one is 10-15 bucks & the same thing. Sometimes "Tuesday Morning" stores carry them now for $8. The Halloween ones on EBay now are a ridiculous $45 + shipping. When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but Target has $19 "Thunder Strobes". I have no idea how they work (aside from the obvious crash and flash), haven't seen one in action. I went to pick one up yesterday, and my store was sold out already.

Waste of money, they flash & have a sound of thunder, no real control, just random & the sound not very impressive.........more like a strobe lite with a fake sound track....not loud/crashing thunder sound effect.
A lite organ like the simple FX lightening box can at least be connected to a sound system so the lightening & thunder sound will come out more realistic. When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

This is true also of the Thunder Strobe at Spirit.
Check out Wolfstone (find lightning in the table of contents), or hereI have some of the boards from Eltronic Goldmine, and I was going to try an hook up an opto isolator and maybe an amp so I could plug in line level sound instead of using a speaker. Now that i hear Tueday Morning store may have Lightning FX boxes I'm gonna have to check that out too.heresjohnny

Let me clarify that the xmas FX boxes are what you'll find at Tuesday Morning, but not all stores from what I understand,.......random finds. I found & picked up the last 4 xmas FX bowes they had last year for $7.99 ea (San Mateo ,Ca) didn't show online, but when i went in it was stock on hand...

I just check all the other links I had of places that were selling these & all of them show out of stock- no longer available......... looks like the same for the xmas ones too. Glad I stocked up on them then !
Found this one on good'ol EBay with 5 day to go- bid at $9.99 so far http://cgi.ebay.com/CHRISTMAS-TREE-F...-/170544018242
******UPDATE, FOUND SOME Xmas tree FX Boxes- $20.95 & in stock ! Amazon.com: Christmas Tree FX ~ Light Show ~ Responds to Sound!: Everything Else
Looks like these are it for cheap lightening boxes now, unless you get an EBay $45 Halloween FX box......When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

Tuesday Morning didn't have any, so I got a grilled stuffed buritto at taco bell instead. I guess I'll have to try to add that opto-isolator after all.
