Every year we give out a Ghoulfest Trophy for the best costume along with a bottle of high end spirits. My question after 7 years of this party is how would some of you go about picking the winner. Usually, I gather everyone out back and line up some of the best dressed ghouls and get everyone to clap for thier favorite. It seems to be a madhouse when we do this. Our party has around 100 people, sometimes more sometimes less depending on the weather.
How do some of you guys who have a big BooBash handle the award? I always seem to pick the Scantily dressed hot chick for the winner. Last year, we actually had a couple going at it in our coffin room. Mini Mouse was being a bad girl aparently and the coffin made as good a place as any I guess. Someone walk in on them too. It was funny. She did not win even though I was a ahem...voting for her.
Help a haunter out.

I have anywhere from 40- 75 guests. I pick a panel of judges, ones with no costume and then we have a costume parade on the run way, the judges get together and choose, most of the time I give out 10 trophies...I have been doing this for 10 years and it is fail proof, no one gets upset, I am not involved in the judging and all is happy.....and speaking of bad girls, I will not mention what happened in my bathroom the other year.......................must be alchol related.......lol
Don't throw that out, I can make that into a......................

I made these trophies for vixen's like these 1 is an Octopussy, the other a beaver, the beaver has teeth...I hope this does not offend anyone, not my intention, it was hilarious at the party though

I'm a DJ at a large nightclub. Every year our parties host 800-1100 people. With all of those costumes, it's hard to narrow it down to a few winners. In years past, we have experimented with having a 'panel' of individuals who give entries into the costume contest to customers leading up to contest time (midnight, of course).
Last year I changed it up a little and invited everyone who wanted to participate to come out to the dancefloor. I introduced each one/couple, then asked the audience, "Are you keeping him/her/them," (pause for audience response) "or are they off the island?" (audience response).
This technique worked out great, because it gave everyone who wanted to be in the contest a chance, and it gave the whole audience a chance to be heard in the judging. I have used it in a couple contests since, and it continues to be my favorite method.
I have 180" projection screens flanking my stage, and this year I'm planning to either mount a stationary camera or use a live cameraman to show each costume on the big screens as I ask for audience response.

I have a system that's simple but effective. At the beginning of the night, you take polaroids of each person who wants to participate in the costume contest. Tape each polaroid to a cup or bowl or something, and put a large bowl of candy on the table. Each person votes by putting pieces of candy into the corresponding cup, using this table:
0 candies-you don't like the costume at all
1 candies-you like the costume a little
2 candies-you like the costume somewhat
3 candies-you REALLY like the costume a lot
The person with the most candies at the end of the night wins.
You could even use different types of candies for different categories. Maybe candy corns for best costume, black licorice pieces for scariest costume, M&Ms for most original costume, etc."Waiter, there's a hair in my soylent green!"
