I do a Haunted Pirate Ship theme at my house and this year I am adding a few yard props. One of the props I am working on is a Hangman's Gallows. I took a pallet, added some filler boards to make it solid and added some 4x4 legs to raise it up a bit. I then added a main upright beam with a top crossbeam and an angle beam, all tied together with wooden brackets that I painted black to look like metal.

Finally, I added a hay hook that I will hang a pirate skeleton from. I am going to do a little "Flame aging" with a propane torch, throw some loose bones, spider webbing and netting on the deck area to finish it off....

Here is what it looks like so far:

The ships' doctor warned me that I've been partaking in too much wine, women and song and told me that I should cut back a bit.........I am really going to miss the singing.....

    Using a pallet.

That looks too good to have started out as a pallet!

Thanks all for the kind words....it actually turned out a little larger than I had originally planned...as it stands now it is almost 10 feet tall, but I think it will work fine once I get it into place.

I do like the idea of the hay hook as I think it really looks neat and it also allows me to easily remove the skeleton at night when my haunt is shut down....

I will post some more pics as I finish it off.....!
