Hey everyone,
I knew if anyone could help me it would be all you fine folks. I would very much like to tackle a flying crank ghost this season and have been looking the directions online. Its CRAZY the vast number of different how/to's that are available on the subject, and honestly a vast majority of them are quite confusing.
This brings me to my request. Does anyone have a really good how/to on the subject? You know, a really idiot-proof version, cause trust me as a very amateur prop builder I NEED it.
Looking forward to the suggestions.![]()

As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

Find several that seem to be fairly clear. Print them all out. Then just get started. My own FCG that I built last year was very much an ongoing troubleshooting project. Of course, I did it ultra cheap. None of the fancy aluminum bracketing systems a lot of people suggest. I haunt my garage, so I just built the mechanism right onto the trusses.
Good luck and as you run into problems, ask specific questions. The haunters here are SO helpful and friendly.Men of broader intellect know that there is no sharp distinction betwixt the real and the unreal...

You might wanna Youtube it too, sometimes seeing someone do it is easier.
Then when you find what works for you, post it here so I can try to figure it out too!Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

Here's a link to a PDF file from Phantasmechanics - the inventor - on how to build a FCG. Unfortunately, it looks like Doug's website is down. Hopefully not for long.

Before I made mine I looked at a million how to's. This is the one I liked the best.

This is the tutorial that I used. I really liked the way it turned out. It is a snap to setup and take down and stores easily. I only made one modification to these instructions and that was to put a wheel on the back of the frame. This eliminated the jerky movement from the back of the frame caused by the movement of the s-hook. If you have any questions or would like to see some closeups of mine, just let me know.

Thanks for the help guys. All I have to say is wow...I'm sitting here looking at the directions with a deer in the headlights look on my face. I'm not sure I'm up to this at all.
Looks way too complex for me. I had my husband look at them, cause to be honest it would likely be him building it.
He was looking up the motor they were recommending and it appears to be discontinued.
Anyone know what type of motor to replace the discontinued model with??As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
