    Graveyard Fence Q

I've seen various options online and even on this forum on building a graveyard fence. I'm looking to prepare a simple one using PVC pipe, however, I'm trying to find an option for creating the horizontal bars across the middle of the posts. I don't have the tools to create anything from plywood as other people tend to do and I would prefer a cost efficient option. Perhaps a form of foam? Plastic...?

I'm open to any suggestions anyone can offer.

    Thanks!

I think you could probably get away with it using thick foam and glue instead of screws. I just don't know how sturdy that would be though.

All you need for the horizontel pieces is wood.
Home Depot or some place like that sells ....argh i forget the name of the cut of wood.
I't just a little thicker than the pvc pipe and cost about .95 cents for an 8 foot piece.

you could just glue your pvc piece to it if you don't have the tools to drill holes through the wood.
might be a little fragile but i've seen pics from others that have done it and it looks pretty cool.
use zip ties where they meet for added strength?

I also saw someone cut pieces of cardboard to make little spikes at the top of each pvc piece. gave it an added detail.

1+2 are about .95 cents and drill bits are not to much no substitute for wood

I used 3' tall survey stakes from lowe's. They are about 1 & half inches wide. You get 25 for $10. I just used some 1x's for the frame. I will post some pics later. It turn out petty good & was easy.

Here are the pics. I made the sections into 4' sections, easy to move & store. I read that you didn't have many power tools. Lowes will cut the 1x's for you. I have like $40 in a 16' section of fence. That's wood, screws, & paint.

I can second the idea of using 1x2s/. For my fence, I'm using 1x2s at the top and bottom for rails, and conduit for the posts. I went with conduit instead of PVC to give it some heft and solidity. That way I can also use metal finials on the fence next year. Another bonus is fast disassembly - I can pull the screws, take down the fence, and the whole thing fits into the attic.

In my area, Menards is far superior to Home Depot for lumber. A 1x2 furring strip is $0.92 at both places. However, you have to invest time in finding ones that are straight for your length. Menards also has select and quality grades that cost a great deal more but don't require the time investment.
