I got two Monsterguts wiper motors in the mail the other day. I tried to hook them up and I'm having issues. I bought two wall warts from the thrift store; one 12v 1.5A and the other 6v 1.66A.

I cut the connectors off of both of them and put on spade bits. When I check with my volt meter, they both read 12v and 6v, respectively. However, when I plug them into the motors, the motors don't work. When I plug the 12v wart into motor 1 the motor pulses. I put the volt meter on it when it is plugged in and the voltage pulses between 0v and 1v (on the high speed). Plugged into the low speed nothing happens. When I plug the 6v into motor 1, nothing happens. I tried putting a volt meter on it when it was plugged in and it sits at about 1v. If I unplug it from the motor while still leaving the wart plugged into the wall, it immediately jumps from 1v to the 6v it's supposed to be. The 12v wart is the same way. It will pulse between 0v and 1v, but as soon as I unplug it from the motor, it immediately returns to 12v.

Motor 2 acts exactly the same as motor 1 with both the of warts. I'm frustrated and hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Argh!

Check to see if the output of the wallwarts are dc current not ac current. Wont work on ac. Wiper motors are dc current.

I wonder if it could be an amperage issue.. I blew a ccfl inverter (ballast) by plugging it into a wall wart...

I don't believe it's an amperage issue. I know others have used 12v 1.5a wall warts to run wiper motors. Anyone else?

If it's pulsing then I think you may have the wrong two connectors hooked up. Look at the more images link on the monsterguts motor page (see below). My first hook up went to the two connectors with the wires, but was wrong and the motor pulsed.

Yes, a 1.5A wart can run a wiper motor but not for too long. Are the warts regulated? It sounds like the answer is no, since you're reading a very low voltage when they're attached to the motor. The high amp needs of the motor will rob voltage to make up for the low amps if the wart is not regulated, driving the voltage down to a point where the motor won't run.

I do have them hooked up correctly; I referred to the "more images" on monsterguts when I was connecting them to be sure. I don't know if the warts are regulated or not, and I'm not sure how to tell. I know just enough about electrical to get me in trouble (obviously). Otaku, are you saying that the problem may well be my wall warts? I was trying to be cheap and get away with the $2 thrift store wall warts, but looks like I may need to buy the real deal.

Well that was the extent of my knowledge. I figured your pulse problem was the same as mine due to the wiring, but no such luck. Good luck to you...
