one of my last minute projects for the year uses a pinball machine coil solenoid to pull a string and ring a bell (idea came from the "dead ringer" thread!). The coil needs 28-30v DC to operate, but I can't find a power supply anywhere for it! I'm assuming there is some sort of "wall wart" power supply that outputs that much, but I can't find one anywhere! Anyone know where I could possibly find one?

Check old HP printer power supplies. I have a couple that are 30VDC.

I'll keep an eye out for one, but I don't have any lying around. Time to Ebay!

Check the thrift stores, too. They usually have a box o' wall warts that you can scrounge through.

We have a store in Illinois called American Scientific & Surplus. I know they have stuff like that.

I never thought to check those places! I have a Science and Surplus catalog here, if the local Goodwill or Salvation Army doesn't have any! Thanks for the help!

I believe that a standard household thermostat operates on that voltage. I would check out a furnace transformer. They're pretty common.
