I am sure this kind of post has appeared before but i can't seem to find one. Does anyone have any cheap resources for styrofoam sheets? I need to buy 4 2" thick 4 by 8 sheets. I fear it's gonna cost me a pretty penny though. The local Home Depot seems to be the cheapest so far a $20 a sheet but I am just not sure I want top invest so much just in styrofoam.

depending on what your using it for you can always check your local craigs list and find foam thats being sold at a discount as usually its used but in good condition. usually construction companies will post reuseable sheets as a means to help the green cause! good luck!

I would advertise. Post ads on Craigslist and any other free ad outlets. Some people have sheets of foam laying around for years and may give it to you for free or for a low price just to get it out of their way. It's worth a shot. What are your plans for the foam?

Check out construction sites, many times they throw out partial sheets of foam that are too small for them to use or are left over. Plus their foam is usually extruded and much easier to work with than the pebbly stuff at lowes and home depot.

Man I wish I could send you some I get sheets of stryofoam from work all the time and usually make tombstones out of them. Call some wharehouses (thats where I work) and ask them if they have some styrofoam sheets they want to get rid of. Alot of times the truck drivers use them so that the product doesnt get damaged, and they have the wharehouse throw them out. Couldnt hurt to call around.

I got my 2" 4x8 sheets of white stryofoam for $9 a sheet. I also got some 1/2" for $2 a sheet. I found a place in Fort Worth, TX that actually makes the sheets and typically sells them to other companies, but with this economy, I think they just sale to anyone that has cash.

Wow you guys have been so very helpful. I will be checking a into some construction sites and warehouses. My Dad has been in construction my whole life and I am just kicking myself remembering all the times in the last few years that we tossed out some of his leftovers.

We are making tombstones this weekend to replace our old ones that are falling apart and/or never looked that fantastic to begin with. So for that we'll probably need 2" thick stuff.

The weekend after that we are building a faux-mausoleum front to conceal the back end of a stationary, short, school bus of all things. We are going to cover the back of this unsightly beast with the doors open and cover the rest (mostly unseen by our guests) in black plastic. Then we will also have somewhere to house our FCG in our inclement weather.
