So, we have been gypsies for a few years...
Our "real" house had GREAT windows for Hallowindow, all over the place. Super wide, tall,...just perfect.
Our house for the last 2 Halloweens had an acceptable window in the perfect location.
Now, we live in a Colonial style house with skinny windows everywhere.

I could put up a shower curtain on a porch that juts off to the side of the house, but it really wouldn't be seen and would frankly be lame. I could put sheets or curtains covering the whole garage door, but that would be weird, I think.

Anybody here used Hallowindow in a creative way that people in my situation can learn from?
I am guessing it will have to be shelved for this year, maybe next.

My job is moving in January 2012, so the gypsies will likely be on the move again.

This is exactly what I was working on this weekend. I have a 22 foot wide garage door. I put eye hooks in the upper corners of the opening. I bought 4 black twin sheets from Walmart for just a few bucks each. I ripped the seam on one end and threaded a rope through the sheets. I then strung the rope through the eyehooks across the length of the garage door opening and tied the rope off. Pretty much I am using them as large curtins.

I then built a 6 foot by 8 foot wood frame using 1"x2"x8' pieces of wood (6'x8' works for 4:3 projection). I drilled holes on each end of the wood and attached them together with bolts and wing nuts so it can be broken down. I bought two cheap white shower curtin liners from the dollar store and will staple the shower curtins to the frame to make a movie screen. I put eye hooks along the top (one on each end and one in the middle) of the frame. I also put hooks across the top of my garage door opening for the frame eyehooks to sit on. I will then do rear projection onto the screen. The projector and the speakers will be in the garage. The black curtins will be pulled up close on both sides of the screen.

The whole project was probably $25 bucks.

I'm using Hallowindow for the first time this year. Our house can hardly be seen from the road, as it is up a hill and our carport is in the way.
I have built a 1800mm x 1800mm frame from timber with a shower screen stretched over this. I will attach 45 deg braces each side and have the screen sitting on top of the (flat roofed) carport. A couple of 12" PA speakers for sound and we're good to go. (It better not rain, usually doesn't here in the summer)

Here's a write-up we did on our all-weather outdoor screen. This enabled us to keep the projector inside, and rear-project our video from the warmth of the house.

This may be more robust than you need depending on your climate, but it might give you some ideas.

what kind of projectors do you recommend for Hallowindow? What does a projector need to have for it to work best?

1800-2000 & up lumes are best, below 1700 gets "iffy". The more luminescence the more detail & clarity you'll get, also don't have to have a perfect dark room. For Hallowindows type rear projection 1800-2000 give you a good show !

Just an FYI - I use an Infocus X2 projector and haven't had any problems with it. I absolutely LOVE Hallowindow and can't wait til the next one comes out. My neighbors ask about it all the time - it's definitely a crowd pleaser.

    Hi Wilbret,
We don't have a projector so we create a little witch room in our front yard and place a t.v. in it that plays hallowindow. Not as cool as having it in a window, but that was all I coud come up with.

    Good luck.

    Hey Wilbret,
Possible to build a quick make-sift screen ( like spicybad did ) in front of one of the skinny windows in front & project thru the window to the screen ?
